Ex-Leeds United goalie joins golfers at tournament for children’s charity

Ex-Leeds United goalkeeper Nigel Martyn was ‘on course’ to help raise £25,000 for sick, disabled and disadvantaged children.

The Whites’ former number one joined ex-footballer Dean Windass in a marathon golf event for leading children’s charity Variety.

The event, organised by the charity’s Yorkshire committee, saw teams complete 54 holes in 12 hours at three Leeds golf courses – Moortown, Alwoodley and Moor Allerton.

The winners were presented with a trophy in memory of Nigel Scott, the YEP’s late business editor, who was a great supporter of Variety.

Committee member David Share said: “Following the success of the inaugural golf marathon last year, the event is now a regular fundraising fixture in our calendar.”

Ian Leach, chairman of the Yorkshire committee of Variety, added: “We are extremely grateful to everyone who supported the event, including our generous sponsors.”
