Ex-Castleford Tigers pro has tasty new career

A former rugby league star is tackling a new challenge after opening up a fish and chip restaurant and takeaway.

Ex-Castleford Tigers’ player Neil Battye is managing director of Battye’s eaterie on Leeds Road, Glasshoughton at Castleford.

Mr Battye, who was backed by the Co-operative Bank for the new venture, is running the restaurant with wife his wife Jo and their son Tom – a budding Great Britain U18 rugby league player.

Jo’s mum Carol Howe is also a key a player in the team at the new restaurant, which can seat 90 customers an is open seven days a week. The restaurant has already won rave reviews. After just five weeks of trading it is ranked in the Top five of restaurants in Castleford on website TripAdvisor.
