ROUNDHAY PLANNING FORUM

Roundhay Planning Forum is a group of residents of Roundhay Ward. It was founded in May 2004 on an initiative of Mr Michael Fox. Its founding members from Roundhay were united by a feeling that residents would be better able to influence decisions on planning if the good and bad characteristics of their neighbourhoods were collectively agreed by most residents and recognised formally by the Leeds City Council.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Association is to work with local residents, elected Councillors and City Council Officers in the preparation of a strategic planning guidance document which seeks to ensure that the essential character of the Roundhay area is protected.

Objectives

The objectives are:-

1. To produce a Neighbourhood Design Statement (NDS) for the Roundhay area of Leeds which can be adopted by Leeds City Council as a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) for the area where Design Statements set out not to resolve individual; specific planning problems of residents but rather to set down principles for the guidance of developers and planners for the conservation and enhancement of the built and natural environments.

2. To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the adopted Neighbourhood Design statement in influencing developers and planners to conserve and enhance the built and natural environments to the satisfaction of residents and workers in the Roundhay area of Leeds.

3. To update the Neighbourhood Design statement as and when required by changes in legislation of planning guidance.

4. To undertake all other associated activities which promote the objectives of the Association.
