A horror film directed by an Emmerdale star is to have its Yorkshire première at a film festival next month.

Dominic Brunt, who plays Paddy in the long-running soap, will also be taking up the lead role of Alex in Before Dawn which will be shown at the Bram Stocker International Film Festival in Whitby.

The feature-length movie focuses on a married couple, who are struggling with their relationship, on holiday in the Dales and have to confront fears within themselves and the onslaught of zombies.

The film was thought up after an argument between Mr Brunt and his wife, Joanne Mitchell, over what made a good zombie movie – and what frequently makes a bad one.

Dominic told the YEP: “I am really proud of the film and that it was picked up by film festival organisers very quickly.

“It’s really important that we are having a Yorkshire première because the landscape is very important to the film and means a lot to the people who live in the area.

“I think that Yorkshire audiences will be up for watching the film and it will be in cinemas in February.”

The film was shot on location at Hebden Bridge, with principal photography lasting 15 days.

Dominic, who has been a member of the Emmerdale cast since 1997, stars alongside his wife who plays the part of Meg and was the creator of the original story.

Joanne, who has previously appeared in Heartbeat, Waterloo Road and Emmerdale, said that she was “really excited to show the film to a northern audience” and that she was “very pleased with the finished film.”

The festival runs between October 25 to 28 and Before Dawn will be screened on Saturday, October 27 at 11pm and followed by a Q&A session. It will also be shown at the Celluloid Screams Film Festival in Sheffield on October 28.
