Leeds dad Robert Allen can boast a very special Father’s Day gift this year - thanks to 10-year-old daughter Emily’s artistic talent.

The Yorkshire Evening Post teamed up with Elliot Brown to offer a £350 Canford watch to the father of the youngster who came up with the best drawing or painting under the title My Dad, My Hero.

And, after ten were selected for publication for a public vote, Emily’s was judged the best by our readers.

Her drawing showed ardent Leeds United fan Robert in the team’s strip celebrating scoring a goal for the Elland Road side.

Mum Joanne said the image was probably inspired by the pair’s frequent trips to the stadium together.

“It was her grandparents Joan and Arthur Palmer from Woodhouse who saw the competition in the YEP and suggested she should have a go,” she said. “Emily loves drawing, will often spend her free time doing creative things and has even done an art class up at the university before.

“Her dad’s always been a massive Leeds fan so drawing him in full kit was an easy choice - but she’s definitely always been a Daddy’s girl as well. In fact, when it comes to getting her to do as she’s told, he’s always the good cop and I’m always the bad one!”

Robert and Emily are now looking forward to watching the World Cup together at home in Beeston.

“I’m just hoping she’ll have a go at drawing a card to win a prize for me for Mother’s Day now,” joked Joanne.
