Elderly man dies after Leeds crash involving mobility scooter

An elderly man has died after he was hit by a car as he rode his mobility scooter in Leeds city centre.

Ronald Drye, 77, was involved in a crash with a Kia Sportage in York Street, Leeds, on Tuesday.

He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary but died overnight.

Police now want to speak to witnesses.

PC Paul Lightowler, of West Yorkshire Police’s major collision enquiry team, said: “We would appeal to anyone who was in the York Street area of Leeds at around 12.15pm on Tuesday and either witnessed this collision or the manner of driving of either vehicle immediately beforehand to call.”
