A suburb in Leeds will travel back in time for a 1950s street party to celebrate the Queen’s diamond jubilee.
The party has been organised by the LS14 Trust alongside shops, businesses and residents in a bid to get the whole of north Seacroft together.
The event on June 4 will centre around the 1950s themed street party along a parade of shops including the Ramshead Post Office.
There will also be traditional games and children’s arts and crafts activities.
Seacroft firm J&S Vintage has sponsored the event with more support coming from Proceeds of Crime Act seizures and East North East Homes.
Event organiser Joanne Curtis said she was thrilled that the community in north Seacroft had got involved.
She said: “It is so warming to see people coming together and working together to create something fun for the community.
“We have St Vincent’s charity shop creating the 50’s tea room, Ramshead Post office donating food and cooking Indian food, The Gate Pub putting on various activities, St Richard’s Church offering free activities for young families and we have even got the Princes Trust Youth Team, Unilever and o2 Think Big coming along to create a Jubilee Garden for the community.
“This is a fantastic sign of local people working with local and national organisations to create a community event in Seacroft.”
Everyone is welcome at the free event but organisers are asking for donations of food for the street party.
Residents in Gildersome are also set to celebrate with a community garden party at Gildersome Sports Club, Street Lane, on Monday June 4 from 11am.
There will be activities for all the family, charity stalls, children’s rides and entertainment, music and a BBQ.
