Duo create business to help launch careers in the skies
Two high flyers who now have their feet firmly on the ground are hoping their new business will take off in 2008.
Jo Marshall, 41, and Wendy Wroe, 45, spent years as cabin crew flying out of Leeds Bradford Airport.
Now they are pooling their knowledge and experience in a bid to help others aiming for a career in the skies.
Jo, from Leeds, explained: "I initially started working at Leeds/Bradford as a ground passenger agent and then went flying, which I did for 20 years including training junior cabin crew and recruiting for the airline.
"I left flying to teach aviation qualifications at an FE college and it was there that I realised that potential cabin crew, although qualified, were not prepared for airline assessment days.
"I asked Wendy if she would be interested in this new venture as we both had a vast amount of knowledge and exposure to the industry. We are both hard workers and have vision for the future of our business, Scisco Ltd."
Through Scisco the two friends have set up a website – www.cabincrewcareers.biz – and they have been promoting their new venture at the White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds.
Wendy, from Wakefield, said: "We have a meeting arranged with Jet2 in Leeds in the New Year and we have our fingers crossed that we will be able to work with the airline which is growing at Leeds/Bradford."
She continued: "People going for interviews as cabin crew often fall at the first hurdle because they are not prepared for what they will be asked.
"Our business is based around giving people experience of what a typical interview is like and we can advise them on how to fill out application forms and the sort of information that will be helpful to them.
"After a mock application process, we can give them the type of feedback they simply won't get if they go for interview and don't get the job."
Jo added: "The aim is to allow airlines to see candidates in the best possible light. Remember, you never get a second chance to make a first impression."
She said individuals wishing to apply to become cabin crew came from all walks of life – and including people wanting a career change and others who were returning to work after a career break.
Wendy added: "The aviation industry is an exciting career choice, and not just for the young because airlines will accept people up to 55-years-old."
Jo said: "We designed the web site so our customers could enjoy some free activities and gain some free information about the industry.
"We have had huge support from our families and businesses who have assisted us along the way."
