Could you give one of these adorable puppies a new home for the New Year?
The Dogs Trust in York Road, Leeds, has been flooded with abandoned pups over the festive period.
Among the 30 plus now being cared for, one was found in a bin and another saved from running loose on a motorway.
Rescue workers believe some were bred to be sold as Christmas presents only to be given up when buyers could not be found. Others have been given as gifts but abandoned when people had second thoughts.
Rehoming manager Amanda Sands told the YEP: “We really are full to the rafters with gorgeous puppies but most of them have very sad stories.
“It’s shocking that so many people still buy puppies on a whim and don’t understand the life-long commitment involved.
“It’s equally irresponsible when owners do not get their dogs neutered, resulting in unwanted litters they hand to us.”
Among the new residents are five-week-old springer spaniel Arthur Christmas who was left in a bin in a park near Skipton and Staffordshire bull terrier cross Holly who was found on the M62 between Leeds and Bradford.
Scrabble, a 14-week-old greyhound cross was handed in on Wednesday after his new owners had him just a few days and got fed up of him not being housetrained and chewing Christmas presents.
Also looking for homes are a litter of eight 14-week-old Collie cross pups – Midge, James, Jenni, Holly, Carol, Eve, Nick, Merry – and the four-strong litter: Pudding, Turkey, Brussels, Clementine, all 10-week-old crossbreeds.
One-week-old Pomeranians Saturn, Venus and Pluto, also need your help, along with Twinkle and Star, seven-week-old crossbreeds; Dasher, Prancer, Sanata and Elf; Merlin; Marmalade; Josh, Mistletoe; Tinsel; and Poppy and Peter.
The centre does not rehome dogs during the festive season, however, rehoming, will restart on January 2.
Amanda added: “We’re desperate to find these pups loving new families so potential owners are welcome to visit the centre and reserve a furry friend, ready to take them home in the New Year. If you are interested in rehoming any of these puppies please call Dogs Trust Leeds on 0113 281 4920.”
