Dog's microchip may help name man found hanging in Leeds cemetery

A PET dog may hold the clue to the identity of a man found hanged in a Leeds graveyard.

The animal is believed to have been found beside the body of its owner in Hunslet cemetery, Middleton Road, Leeds, yesterday.

Police have confirmed a dog was found at the scene of the incident, close to the body of the man at 5.45am.

The identity of the man is still unknown but officers are hoping a microchip in the dog's neck could help them name him.

The cemetery was sealed off yesterday following the discovery.

It is thought the man was found hanging from a tree. The alarm was raised by a man out walking his dog.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said the coroner has been informed.

Police covered and guarded the the grave plot where the body was discovered. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

The body was found in the modern part of a complex of cemeteries which date back to the early Victorian era which straddle Middleton Road, overlooking the M1.

There is only one tree amid the rows of well-kept graves.
