The victim of a fire whose body was found in a burning van may have started the blaze while smoking.
Firefighters discovered the body in the back of the vehicle on Heckmondwike Road, Dewsbury, on Saturday morning. (August 24)
Police are working with fire investigators to determine the circumstances leading up to the fire and have yet to comment on what caused it.
But the Yorkshire Evening Post understands one line of enquiry is that it began accidentally while the victim smoked inside.
The death is currently being treated as unexplained and police have so far been unable to identify the victim, or their gender, because of the extent of their injuries.
A postmortem was scheduled to be carried out and the coroner has been informed.
