A lone female dogwalker was attacked by a mugger in a alleyway in West Yorkshire.

Detectives are now trying to trace the man, who pushed the woman against a wall and demanded cash in the night time incident.

The attempted robbery happened in Castleford on Friday evening.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “Wakefield CID would like to speak to anyone who has information about the incident which took place between 10.45pm and 10.50pm on the evening of Friday October 19 near Rhodes Street in Castleford.

“The victim, a 19-year-old woman, was approached from behind by a man as she walked her dog down an alleyway between Rhodes Street and Perseverance Street.

“She was the pushed against a wall by the suspect who demanded money. He then fled towards the town centre when the victim said she didn’t have any.”

The would-be robber was described as white, wearing a thick black coat with the hood up and dark bottoms.

He also spoke with a foreign accent which was possibly Polish.

Anyone who has information or anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact DC 6275 Scott at Wakefield CID on 101.

Information can also be passed anonymously and in confidence to CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.
