Delays continue after Leeds trains crash

This crash between two trains in Leeds was continuing to cause disruption for commuters today.

Rail services between Leeds and York were subject to "significant alterations" after the accident at 2am yesterday at the Neville Hill maintenance yard.

Engineers worked through last night so that a crane can today lift the four carriages which were derailed.

It is likely the re-railing operation will take all day to complete.

Nick King, from Network Rail, said: "It was a low speed collision between two empty trains – both out of service passengers trains.

These trains were in a maintenance yard and sidings off the railway in Neville Hill.

"One of the trains was derailed but there were no injuries."

The diesel high speed trains were operated by East Midlands Trains.

A company spokeswoman said the Hull line was blocked in one

direction. "While East Midlands Trains services were not affected by the blockage, passengers using some other operators' services may have experienced disruption to their journeys."

The spokeswoman said they had informed the Railway Accident Investigation Branch.

Passengers are advised to check with National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50 or their rail operator to check individual service details.
