Debbie exercised by bid to get out of gym membership

Debbie Dean has a bone to pick with Esporta gym at Cookridge.

The sandwich shop owner has been trying to cancel her membership since September after she put her back out at work. Despite sending two doctor's notes – costing 25 a time – as confirmation of her ailment, so far she has had no luck in ending her agreement.

"They wouldn't accept it," she said. "I have been allowed to freeze my account for several months but no matter what I do they want me to complete my 12 months with them."

Mrs Dean has now cancelled her 65 a month direct debit. Esporta has since written to tell her she must pay or risk a visit from the bailiffs.

An old stone wall that overhangs a railway line in Morley is safe.

Network Rail investigated reports that the wall at the Morley Station end of the Morley Tunnel at both Station Road and Valley Road was in poor condition. An examination of coping stones, particularly over the tunnel portal, has shown no cause for concern, a spokeswoman said. She added that Valley Road is an unadopted road and could be owned by a local factory.
