Daniel Yorath: Tailors to run in memory of teenager
TAILORS Michaela Begley and Ruth Innes have got designs on raising thousands of pounds in memory of the son of Leeds United hero Terry Yorath.
Michaela and Ruth, who run Leeds-based customised tailoring company Fit2Suit, are currently in training for the New York Marathon.
All the money they raise by taking part in the race will be donated to the Cardiomyopathy Association's Daniel Yorath Appeal.
It was set up by the Yorath family after Daniel's death aged 15 in 1992.
The talented schoolboy footballer collapsed during a kickabout with his dad in the garden of their Shadwell home.
He was later found to have been suffering from cardiomyopathy, a hereditary disease that causes a thickening of the heart muscle.
Michaela, 28, went to Meanwood's Cardinal Heenan High School with Daniel and her memories of him are now spurring her on as she prepares for November's run.
She and Ruth, also 28, hope to raise 10,000 for the Yorath appeal with a combination of sponsorship from the race and the proceeds from other charity events they are planning in Leeds.
The first of those events is a New York-themed party at Leeds city centre's Oracle bar tomorrow.

The efforts of the tailoring duo – whose firm supplies suits to Leeds United's first team – are being backed by Daniel's cousin, John Walker.
John, a 29-year-old joiner from Beeston, knows Michaela from their time together at Woodhouse's Notre Dame Sixth Form College.
He will be joining her and Ruth in the marathon and is also helping organise the other elements of their fundraising drive.
John said: "Daniel was three-and-a-half years older than me and like a big brother.
"When Michaela told me she was going to run the New York Marathon for his appeal I really wanted to get involved."
John is preparing for the race using a fitness programme devised by the personal trainer of Gabby Logan, Daniel's TV sports presenter sister.
