CSI fan, 89, trapped Leeds rapist VIDEO

A MAN who raped an 89-year-old in her Leeds home was snared because she was obsessed with a cult American TV cop show.

After being raped twice by 20-stone Mauro Lopes, the frail seven stone widow told police: "I have been watching CSI so I scratched his face so you could get DNA from my fingernails."

The evidence she gathered helped police identify and charge Lopes within two days of the attack in March.

His DNA was on a national database after a 2005 drink driving offence.

Lopes, of Mabgate, Leeds, admitted two rapes and one assault by penetration.

The Recorder of Leeds, Judge Peter Collier QC yesterday jailed Lopes for nine years, describing his offences as "vile in the extreme".

Lopes, who worked as a doorman in Headingley, had been out drinking and to a lap dancing bar.

He was angry and on the lookout for sex after arguing with his girlfriend.

Lopes knocked on his victim's door, asked if she had called police and flashed his doorman's security pass before barging in to the flat.

He put a pillow over her face as he raped her twice on her bed.

She needed hospital treatment and was so traumatised she has had to leave her home of 36 years and move to a care home.

Even there she feels she has to lock the door at night and has trouble sleeping.

Lopes came from Angola on a false passport in 2002 and later won asylum, will be deported when he has served his sentence in the UK.

Det Supt Steve Payne said after the court hearing: "It was a cold blooded attack."
