Crossgates Shopping Centre: Going green for World Environment Day
Crossgates Shopping Centre took part in the World Environment Day, which is commemorated each year on June 5.
The United Nations, who are the founders of this event, stimulate worldwide awareness of the environment and enhance political attention and action around the globe, encouraging local communities to become involved on the day.
Events will kicked off on Wednesday June 4, with the Energy Saving Trust at the Crossgates Shopping Centre to help advise everyone on how to save energy.
The Energy Saving Trust is a non-profit organisation that provides free impartial advice tailored to suit individuals.
Their advice can help households save money and fight climate change by reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
Councillor Steve Smith, Executive Board Member for Environmental Services, said: "This event is an excellent way to bring together businesses, residents and voluntary groups to work together to tackle green issues and learn more about how we can all minimise our effects on the environment and protect it for future generations.
"I hope shoppers visiting Crossgates Shopping Centre are encouraged to find out more about how they can play a part."
Crossgates has invited local and national environmental awareness groups to come and discuss and help locals to become more environmentally aware.
Apart from the Environment Agency, who will be raising awareness on local and national issues, the Wybeck Woods Action Group, the Primrose Valley Action Group and Temple Newsam Rangers will be promoting the work of their groups.
