Crossgates Shopping Centre dedicates Christmas funds to charity
Crossgates Shopping Centre has made history by collecting a record amount of money for charity during the Christmas season.
During the run-up to the holiday period, Crossgates Shopping Centre played host to several local groups raising money for a wide variety of charities.

For the first year ever, thanks to the generosity of the general public, these initiatives enabled the Centre to raise a combined amount of over 1,300.
The 1st Cross Gates Brownies & Guides collected over 150 towards the UK's largest dog welfare charity, The Dogs Trust, as well as their Unit's funds, through carol-singing on the Mall in December, and Local barbershop group The Day Toners raised over 370 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance through their advent singing sessions.
The Centre itself raised a significant amount for local cancer charity St Gemma's Hospice through donations to Santa's wishing well, Carol singers and bucket collections on the Mall, and the presence of Churches Together in Leeds 15's popular Nativity Crib display.
It was built by local St Theresa's Church parishioner Frank Seaman with a Christmas carol audio system donated by Cross Gates Methodist Church in Austhorpe Road.
As a result, staff from St Gemma's Hospice were able to pay a visit to Crossgates Centre last week to pick up a massive cheque for 817.71, to be put towards the essential and much needed patient care and charity funds.
Anne Malia, from St Gemma's, said: "We'd particularly like to thank Crossgates Shopping Centre and the people of Cross Gates for all their help in raising funds for the charity throughout Christmas."
"Being a major provider of palliative care for the terminally ill, we very much appreciate people's support and it's great to see such tremendous generosity in action. Thank you very much to everyone who contributed."
This donation is a tremendous achievement for Crossgates Shopping Centre, which celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2007.
Being keen to continue to raise funds for charity throughout the year, active involvement with various projects including bike-rides, sky-dives, recycling drives and other eco-initiatives are also in the pipeline for 2008.
