Jane Robinson, the Living History Project Worker achieved this by visiting isolated members of our community in their own homes to record their life memories.
She also held reminiscence sessions with Good Neighbours members at the scheme's regular weekly Drop-Ins.
As a further strand to the project she worked alongside Jessica Penrose, a creative writing tutor, to run intergenerational creative writing sessions with Year 4 pupils from Cross Gates Primary School. All of this valuable work resulted in a booklet to record the project's achievements.
The lunch was held to launch the booklet and as a thank you to all the participants of the project.
None of this could have been achieved without the support and cooperation from Good Neighbours staff and members, teaching staff and children from the school, and the volunteers who kindly allowed Jane to record their memories.
After a short welcome by Good Neighbours trustee Jacki Lawrence, Jane described how the project had run and how it had successfully achieved all its objectives.
This was followed by a buffet lunch during which a musical background was provided by singer and keyboard artist Martin Hewitt.
After lunch all the attendees had the opportunity to view a display of photographs taken during the project and collect their own copy of the booklet.
All the information recorded during the project has been transcribed and will be lodged as an archive with the East Leeds History and Archaeology Society in the East Leeds Heritage Centre at Cross Gates Library.
Copies of the booklet can be obtained from Good Neighbours.
