Cow causes M1 smash at Wakefield

AN ELUSIVE cow caused a smash on the motorway last night - but could not be found by police.

Officers received reports of the cow wandering close to Woolley Services on the M1 southbound around Junction 39 at around 10.30pm.

Around that time a Toyota car, swerving to avoid the errant bovine, was involved in a crash.

A passenger received non-life threatening injuries, police said.

All efforts to trace the cow following the smash proved fruitless and police were urging people driving on the motorway today to be on the lookout.
