Police recovered more than £14,000 worth of heroin and crack cocaine after arresting a man at a bedsit in Leeds.

Sajid Shafi was already on licence from a previous jail term for possessing drugs with intent to supply when officers searched his home in Trentham Grove on September 20.

Michael Smith prosecuting told Leeds Crown Court yesterday (Oct 2) Shafi had a drawstring bag found to contain bags of heroin worth more than £13,000.

When he was further searched at the police station 4.2 grammes of crack cocaine was found in his waist band and 11.8 grammes taken from his mouth. He also had £540 on him.

Shafi, 39, admitted possession of the drugs with intent to supply and possessing criminal property.

Jailing him for 2045 days, the minimum seven year term minus 20 per cent for his guilty plea, Judge Geoffrey Marson QC said: “It is a wicked and evil trade.”

Narinder Rathour for Shafi said he had agreed to look after the items after getting into a drug debt.
