Corinne in line for star award
LEEDS singer-songwriter Corinne Bailey Rae has been nominated in the USA's prestigious Grammy awards.
The Grammys, now into their 50th year, celebrate the cream of the music industry.
A nomination for a British artist signals success in penetrating the notoriously tough American music business.
Corinne, from Hyde Park, is up for song of the year for her single Like a Star.
She was nominated last year in the same category for Put Your Records On, as well as best new artist.
Corinne's career has taken a stellar turn since she appeared on BBC's Later....With Jools Holland in late 2005.
Her self-titled debut album was one of last year's biggest sellers.
Last month, Corinne performed at Leeds Wardrobe in a gig organised by Leeds Together for Peace to support five charities.
Elsewhere at the Grammys, ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney's Memory Almost Full is up for Pop Vocal Album.
Amy Winehouse is up for six awards, only bettered by hip hop mogul Kanye West, who has eight nominations. Winehouse will do battle with superstar Beyonce, who is nominated for Irreplaceable, in the record of the year category and Rihanna for Umbrella, featuring Jay-Z.
