Moortown Community Group (MCG) was formed in 2008 and works to protect and improve their local area. The group has just received a major funding boost after their local Area Committee agreed to help them with a grant of over 13,000.

The group will use some of the money to consult local people on their plans to develop a Neighbourhood Design Statement for Moortown, which will act as a guide for developers in the area and can protect the community from inappropriate development. MCG have also recently set up Moortown in Bloom and will use a portion of the cash to display plants and flowers throughout the area, making it an even more attractive place for residents and visitors.
Councillor Matthew Lobley (Con, Roundhay and Chair of the North East (Inner) Area Committee) said: "Moortown Community Group are doing some fantastic work in their local area. It is always great to see people playing a role in protecting their community, but funding for voluntary groups like these is often hard to come by so I am delighted that we have been able to support MCG."
He added: "I am particularly pleased to see that they have set up a Moortown in Bloom group. These projects have been a roaring success right across the city and projects in nearby Slaid Hill and Shadwell have proved extremely popular. I am sure the people of Moortown will feel the same when their project comes to fruition.
"MCG's other plans, such as the Neighbourhood Design Statement, will help protect the unique history and heritage of Moortown for future generations.
"It will be of great benefit for everyone who lives, works and shops there, and will help ensure that Moortown remains a wonderful place to live for years to come."
