At the last Church Council the following Mission Statement for he church was agreed:

"We are a community of God's people responding to the good news of God's love in Christ.

We welcome people of all ages and abilities to join in Christian worship and fellowship and to share in the mission of service and witness to God's Kingdom throughout the world."

Well, September is here, most holidays are over and the children are due back to school in the next week or so.

At Colton, some activities have had a break and are also restarting with new programmes of activities and speakers.

Colton Ladies Group restart 4th September and Thursdays About at Colton start the following Thursday 11th September. New members welcome to both groups.

Uniformed Groups also starting again with lots already planned. The Halton branch of Explorers have moved their activities to Colton, taking place ion Wednesdays after Cubs have finished.

All groups will be welcoming new members, Beavers passing to Cubs, Cubs passing to Scouts, together with an influx of new members.

With other groups having closed leaving nowhere in some areas to join Uniform Groups.

Colton are trying to take them on board, but this does mean they need to find adults who are prepared to help.

If you are prepared to help, and have fun as well, please contact Helen on 077333 48104.

While some activities are closed for the summer, other activities have continued to take place.

Mid June saw a Strawberry Coffee Morning taking place. Strawberry and Cream Scones – or just plain buiscuit and tea or coffee – the choice was yours.

A good turn out was seen this year with support from members from Halton, Crossgates and Scholes.Thank you to the ladies who arranged the event and to the customers for their support. Apleasing sum of 123 was raised to support Breast Cancer Awareness.

The Church Anniversary was held on 5th and 6th July with a wonderful meal and a social evening. Part of theentertainment for the evening was a Quizaid. This was enjoyed by all and 202 was raised for Christian Aid. Thanking you to all the Cooking Team - what wonderful cooks and a lovely spread – and to everyone else who helped at the event. The Sunday morning service was very inspiring – the theme was 'directions'.

Congratulations are also due to Colton W.I. also continued to meet over the summer. They were awarded a Certificate recognising their 20 years membership of the West Yorkshire Federation.

Planning is now underway for the Harvest Service and Supper 4th/5th October, with proceeds to Methodist Relief Development Fund.

An earlier event is planned for Sunday 28th September when Colton Church, along with other churches in the community and Leeds, will be marking "Back to Church Sunday". This particular event is to invite people to join us for the service, people who may once have been regular church attenders but no longer go to Church – for whatever reason.

Would you like to come to Church but feel nervous about it then please do contact us – if only to make enquiries.
