CHRISTMAS may be only just on the horizon - but fans of classical singing sensation Alfie Boe can be forgiven if they are already looking forward to NEXT YEAR’S festive period.
The singer today announced a show at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on Friday, December 5, 2014.
Confirmation of the concert comes ahead of next week’s release of Alfie’s new album, Trust.
And fans of the man known as ‘the nation’s favourite tenor’ are expected to waste no time snapping up tickets for his Leeds date when they go on sale at 10am this Friday.
Priced from £25, they will be available from the www.firstdirectarena.com website or the 0844 248 1585 box office line.
Purchases can also be made in person from the customer service lounge at the Trinity Leeds shopping centre.
Alfie isn’t the only famous face preparing to beat a path to the £60m arena’s door in 2014, however.
TV favourites Ant & Dec have announced they will be bringing their Saturday Night Takeaway live tour to the venue on Tuesday, August 12.
Based on their ITV programme of the same name, the show is promising “special guests, amazing prizes to be won and of course lots of surprises for the audience”.
Tickets for the Takeaway extravaganza will be available from 9am this Friday from the same sales sources as for the Alfie Boe concert.
Acts appearing at the arena between now and the end of 2013 include Stereophonics, Nickelback, Tinie Tempah, Boyzone, Status Quo and Wet Wet Wet.
The venue will also play host to the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards show on Sunday, December 15.
Tickets for the ceremony sold out in a matter of minutes when its box office opened for business on Friday.
Organisers say a “limited number” of additional tickets will be made available at the end of this month, once staging plans for the event have been finalised.
Developed by Leeds City Council, the arena opened in July with a concert by Bruce Springsteen.
Experts say it should be worth £25m a year to the city’s economy - and the benefits it is bringing were highlighted yesterday when plans for a Leeds Arena Hilton Hotel were confirmed.
