Christine Brown: Roundhay woman's distinguished music career
A prominent music teacher and composer from Roundhay has died, aged 78.

Christine Brown had an incredible music career which began at the age of 16 when she won a Foundation Scholarship to the Royal College of
Music in London where she studied the piano and viola.

She returned to the north, won the Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra Concert Soloists' Competition and began developing a career as a performer, teacher, composer and adjudicator.
She lectured in music at Bretton Hall College, near Wakefield, after teaching in a number of schools.
Christine was among the first people to join the European Piano
Teachers Association and ran the Yorkshire branch for 15 years.
She was also a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians and was elected Warden of the Private Teachers' Section in 1991.
In 1988 she was commissioned to write a Guide for Piano Teachers.
Christine died on September 27 and a funeral will be held at Leeds Parish Church on Wednesday at 1pm.
