Baby Chloe Elizabeth’s life was cut tragically short at three days.
Her parents Jenna Hilton and Chris Tate have spent over three years raising thousands of pounds in memory of their tiny daughter.
Nurse Jenna, 27, and her partner Chris, 30, of New Forest Village, Leeds, have raised over £25,000 to help the Leeds hospital that cared for Chloe Elizabeth.
But now the couple, who are set to tie the knot later this year, are hosting a black tie ball in memory of their daughter.
Sadly, Chloe Elizabeth died in September 2009 from a condition called congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), which affects around 5,000 babies a year and has a 50 per cent survival rate.
The heartbroken couple were so touched by the efforts of Leeds General Infirmary’s neonatal unit that they set up the Chloe Tate Foundation in the youngster’s memory.
Jenna said: “We were told that one incubator cost £10,000 and we realised just how important the unit is.
“We decided whether Chloe survived or not that we wanted to fundraise.
“So many more people know about the condition and it’s about a legacy in Chloe’s name.
“It helps her memory live on forever.”
They have organised a series of fundraising events since her death and even called on the help of Leeds rock band and close friends The Pigeon Detectives.
Babies who suffer from CDH have a hole in the sheet of muscle which separates the abdomen and the chest.
The hole allows the baby’s organs to pass into the chest, stopping the lungs from developing properly.
The Chloe Tate Ball will take place at Oulton Hall later this month.
Boxer Ricky Haton has donated a signed and framed picture to raffle off at the ball and other prizes include a stay in a luxury apartment in Spain, a signed Manchester United football and a signed Luis Suarez picture.
Jenna added: “To be honest I can’t see stopping fundraising.
“I think it’s something we will continue to do and it helps us and is therapy for us really.”
The ball will be held on March 16.
