A giant puppet parade on Saturday afternoon saw children carrying their home-made creations.

The main stage in Regent Street provided musical fun throughout five days, including steel drums and even a bit of swing, ballads and bubblegum pop from Becks and the Bullets and a dreamy, folksy set from Ellen and the Escapades, who recently appeared at the Glastonbury festival.

The town's SevenArts Centre was the venue for several festival highlights, including the atmospheric Love, Death and Nightingale, a musical exploration of the cosmopolitan world of the 17th and 18th centuries.

Several bars and venues in the town took on their own festival feel, hosting bands and DJs, and ensuring a party atmosphere late into the night.

Sunday began with a mid-morning "photowalk" through suburban Chapel

Allerton and the woodland of Gledhow Valley, providing a breezy, picturesque break ftom the traditional festival activities.

Then, throughout the day, Festival Jazz in Regent Street featured some of the area's most talented acts, combining smooth grooves with the big band of the North Leeds Jazz Orchestra.

One festival visitor summed up the mood saying: "It's just perfect. There's so much to see and do, and everyone seems to be having a great time.

"The best thing is, the whole of Chapel Allerton seems to have got involved. It really has been a festival for everyone."

The community party ended with Soul Train, the official festival wrap party, which provided a feast of soul, reggae, ska, funk, mod and 60s R&B at the Seven Arts Centre on Sunday night.
