Casa Mia is dishing up support for Leeds StreetSmart

A Leeds city centre restaurant is serving up some help for local homeless charities.

Casa Mia at Millennium Square has signed up for the StreetSmart Leeds campaign, which aims to tackle homelessness by asking diners to voluntarily add £1 to their bill.

The annual Yorkshire Evening Post-backed campaign raised a record-breaking £28,000 for local charities last year.

Francesco Mazzella, owner of Casa Mia, said: “It’s the worst time of the year with the winter cold and we need to help people who might not be able to help themselves.

“It’s about giving back to people who have not had such a good life.”

All proceeds from the Leeds campaign will be split between five different local charities, including Caring For Life, Simon on the Street, St George’s Crypt, Teen Challenge Leeds and St Anne’s Community Services’ Resource Centre on York Street.

Sponsor Deutsche Bank is the financial backing behind StreetSmart and helps ensure each £1 given to the campaign goes to the local causes.

This year, participating StreetSmart Leeds restaurants include: The Olive Tree at Rodley, Far Headingley and Chapel Allerton; Angelica and Crafthouse at Trinity Leeds; Salvo’s and Salvo’s Salumeria in Headingley; Fourth Floor at Harvey Nichols; Chino Latino at the Park Plaza Hotel; Samuel Valentine Urban Food Hall in Allerton Bywater and Bridge Hotel and Spa in Wetherby.

Leeds first joined the StreetSmart initiative in 2002.
