TRAP or 'Capture Houses' that help unmask professional burglars are enjoying more success in south Leeds.
The secret homes fitted with covert police cameras which film raiders and unique chemical sprays which contaminate intruders have led to further arrests in the area.
Now raiders are on notice that if a potential burglary target seems too good to be true it probably is.
One of the 'Capture Houses' was burgled in Beeston at 9.45pm on December 10 and a plasma TV was stolen by thieves who were filmed by CCTV cameras.
Just two days later two men aged 36 and 30 were arrested by the City and Holbeck CID Proactive Team from an address in Beeston for the offences of handling stolen goods and possession of cannabis . The plasma TV stolen from the burglary at the 'Capture House' was recovered from this address.
The 36-year-old received an adult caution for handling stolen goods and a caution for possession of cannabis. The 30-year-old received a caution for possession of cannabis.
The team believe they have also identified the burglar and last Saturday (Dec 15), arrested a 23-year-old man from the Harehills area of Leeds. He has been charged with burglary and will be appearing at Leeds Magistrate Court on January 2.
Det Insp Jaz Khan said: "This is the second time the Capture House has resulted in arrests. In November a 16-year-old youth was also arrested and charged with burglary after stealing property from a Leeds Capture House.
"These recent arrests are an excellent example of using technology to capture burglars.
"The capture houses can be set up in any area. My message to burglars is that you will be identified through hidden police cameras in Capture Houses and you will be arrested and brought before the courts.
"The message to the buyers of stolen property is that you will also be identified and be arrested."
Det Sgt Tim Lumb said: "We are working with the NPT's in the Beeston area, and the officers on my team are targeting all known burglars. I would like to reassure the public that we are working hard to reduce offences of burglary."
