Cafe society goes on, despite Lakeside blaze

The management of Roundhay Park wasted no time when a fire put the popular Lakeside Cafe out of use - perhaps for the rest of the season.

They opened up a temporary alternative, the Pavilion Cafe, at the cricket pavilion in the arena.

Park manager David Moirgan said: "The new cafe has been quite busy, especially at weekends.

"It provides somewhere to have a tea or coffee and gives the public an extra toilet.

"We worked quickly to put tables and chairs, a coffee machine and fridge into the pavilion so we could offer a service. The public say it is better than they expected."
