BRAVE children battling cancer at a Leeds hospital will get to jet off on holiday this year thanks to a huge £25,000 charity donation.

Around 50 families from the Leeds-based Candlelighters Trust will enjoy a relaxing break after the impressive sum was raised at a charity auction.

The fundraiser was organised by Nick Bannister and other members of the Pendle Forest and Craven Hunt, who were given a tour of Candlelighters, based at Leeds General Infirmary, yesterday.

The charity raises over £1million pounds every year to support families of children with cancer.

Mandy Scaife’s daughter Poppy is being treated at the city centre hospital.

Mandy said: “We’re amazed by all the help and support Candlelighters provides.”

She added: “It makes Poppy’s stay on the ward more enjoyable and this wouldn’t be possible without such kind donations.”

Jo Shepheard, operations manager at Candlelighters, said: “We were amazed by the generosity of those who attended the auction and we know that this will directly help our families in Yorkshire this year.”

She added: “It is a pleasure to receive such a wonderful donation and we are so pleased we can continue to offer this support to families.”

The Candlelighters Trust is a children’s charity dedicated to combating childhood cancer, leukaemia and serious blood disorders.

It aims to make the lives of the children and their families more bearable.

It was set up in 1976 and is run by parents with children who have been affected by the illness, and supported by relatives, friends and medical and nursing staff.
