Boy airlifted to hospital after Leeds car crash VIDEO

A boy was airlifted to hospital after being cut free from the wreckage of a car involved in a crash with an empty school bus and another car.

Firefighters cut away the roof of a red Citroen in which the 12-year-old was a passenger before he could be freed and taken to Leeds General Infirmary by air ambulance.

His condition was not immediately known.

Two other people were injured in the accident.

The smash just before 9.30am on Friday, November 27, blocked the A65 Leeds to Otley Road in both directions at Golden Acre Park, Bramhope.

In addition to the Citroen hatchback, the crash involved a stationary double decker First Bus – which had finished a school run between Leeds and Harrogate – and a red Vauxhall Corsa hatchback.

The side of the bus was extensively damaged after it was apparently struck by one of the cars which then collided with the second hatchback

It is thought one of the vehicles was overtaking at the time of the crash.

Crews from the Rawdon, Hunslet and Leeds Central fire stations raced to the scene and police closed the road and set up diversions along Kings Road, Arthington Road and Eccup Lane.

A spokesman for First Buses said the bus driver was on the vehicle when it was struck by one of the cars.

He added that the driver was uninjured and there had been no passengers on board the bus as it had completed a school run and was waiting for its next journey. The bus would be towed to the company's garage to be examined.

First Bus incident investigators had gone to the scene and were liaising with police accident investigators.

A local resident said that accidents were not uncommon on that stretch of the road.

She said that in recent years at least two cars had gone through hedges into the fields and more recently a motorcyclist had an accident at the spot.
