Bingo hall to be demolished after fire - train station closed

A derelict bingo hall fire in Shipley was to due to be demolished this morning after being ravaged by fire last night.

King’s Bingo Hall on Briggate, at Fox Corner, was practically destroyed by the fire, which was spotted at about 8.20pm.

At least six fire engines attended the incident, including those from Hunslet, Leeds Central and Keighley.

As a result of road closures and other measures taken by police to seal off the unsafe building, Shipley train station was closed and is expected to remain so until later today.

A fire service spokesman from Shipley said: “The whole building was involved in the fire, the roof is unsafe and I think they are going to pull it down.”

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police today confirmed: “The building is expected to be demolished at about 10am.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
