A firebug is being blamed for a series of bin fires in Holbeck - the latest of them, during the early hours today, led to a woman and two teenagers being evacuated from their home.
A fire service spokesman said they had been called out almost every night for the last two weeks to similar incidents.
The latest attack happened today at 4.50am at a house on Recreation Place, Holbeck. A spokesman said the house was smoke-logged and a car was damaged.
Fire fighters said the attacks, which normally occur between 3am and 5am, were potentially life threatening.
The spokesman said: “We’ve been called out just about every night for the last two weeks, in every case a wheelie bin has been pushed up against a house wall and set on fire. The fire then catches on the house and breaks drainage pipes and cracks windows. Last night’s attack also damaged a car and lead to the house being smoke-logged. A woman and two teenagers were lead to safety.
“We have informed the police, we just want people to be extra vigilant.”
Other attacks have taken place on Recreation Place, Recreation View and Recreation Street.
