BBC Total Wipeout: Athletes confident of winter success

Olympic gold medallist Sally Gunnell and former world champion Fatima Whitbread will join stars such as Joe Swash and Adele Silva to take on a very different sporting challenge - BBC One's Total Wipeout course, it was announced today.

They are among the stars taking on the big red balls and dizzy dummies, as they aim to beat the mighty obstacle contest - and each other - to win 10,000 for their chosen charity in a celebrity edition of the hit show to be aired this winter.

Gunnell, who is competing for Rwandan Orphanage, is ready to give it her all.

"I just want to go for it on the course. Having grown up on a farm, I was always covered in mud, so Total Wipeout won't really faze me much!" she said.

Javelin thrower Whitbread, who hopes to win money for children's charity 21st Century Children, is none too concerned about the difficult course, saying she has maintained a good fitness level.

Swash, who was crowned the winner of I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here in 2008, aims to raise money for The Ben Kinsella Foundation.

The ex-EastEnders actor-turned-presenter revealed that he's most worried about the Dizzy Dummies, saying: "I'll just let them (the others) get on with it as I get car sick and when all is quiet, I'll make the move."

Other reality TV stars participating include model-presenter Danielle Lloyd, Waterloo Road actor Luke Bailey, former EastEnders actor Chris Parker, Strictly Come Dancing dancers James and Ola Jordan and comedians Tim Vine and Joe Pasquale.

Hosted by Richard Hammond, the celebrities will have their physical strength, stamina and nerves tested to the limit as they battle with the purpose-built course outside Buenos Aires, Argentina.

* Total Wipeout will be aired on BBC One this winter.
