Batley girl wows TV chef with fusion recipe
CELEBRITY chef James Martin was blown away by a Batley schoolgirl's fusion food.
Rumaanah Patel, of Batley Parish Primary, won a contest for the popular Yorkshire cook to visit her school for a day.
Her prize also included a week-long visit from a Focus on Food bus.
To win the contest, run by Canned Food UK, Rumaanah had to come up with a winning recipe using tinned ingredients.
The 10-year-old's brainwave was to fuse traditional and ethnic Yorkshire by serving Yorkshire pudding and curry.
Anita Cormac, executive director of Focus on Food, said: "James thought Rumaanah's recipe was fantastic. He cooked it for school dinner and the school cook remarked on how happy the children were to be eating the vegetables.
"Everyone had a great day and learned a lot. James has a great rapport with children and is a very good teacher."
Food buses are used to teach children all aspects of cookery. In 10 years the Focus on Food charity has taught cooking skills to 36,000 children and 2,500 teachers.
