A baby boy was born on a dual carriageway when his parents got stuck in a traffic jam while they frantically tried to make it to hospital.

Niall Littlewood is the second baby to be born on the A629 Calderdale Way in Huddersfield in just six months.

Aimee Wadsworth, 25, was on her way to hospital with boyfriend, Andrew Littlewood, 33, on Wedneday morning when baby Niall refused to hold on any longer.

Andrew valiantly attempted to battle through the gridlocked traffic but the couple’s baby son arrived just minutes later on the passenger seat of his dad’s VW Golf.

Traffic was tailing back on the road due to an earlier lorry smash, and the dad-to-be feared his first child was going to die. But little Niall, was born at 7am, weighing 6lb 4oz, and both he and Aimee are doing well.

Andrew said: “I have never been so worried.

“I watch One Born Every Minute all the time and it normally doesn’t end well when there are no cries from the baby.

“I’m so happy about the outcome, we have a gorgeous baby boy.”
