Asylum seeker wins seven-day reprieve after supporters' demo
AN asylum seeker celebrated in Leeds after he was given another seven days to prepare his case to stay.
Supporters of Olivier Mmounda demonstrated outside the Home Office immigration centre on Kirkstall Road before he went inside.
He feared he would be deported to Cameroon on Monday, but officials decided he was medically unfit to travel, said Harriet Burn, who accompanied him.
She said: "It's really good news. We have to report back in a week's time with more medical evidence."
Mr Mmounda, 28, fled Cameroon to escape persecution because he spoke against the way the Government treats people with sickle cell anaemia from which he suffers.
