A suspected thief was arrested with several mobile phones “stuffed in his jeans pockets” police said.
The 24-year-old has been charged with eight offences of theft after he was held in the early hours of Sunday.
Officers from Leeds City Neighbourhood Policing Team were alerted after security staff from a city centre nightclub chased and detained the man, who had been seen acting suspiciously.
PC Neil Haywood said: “Officers arrived and searched the male to find his haul of mobile phones stuffed in his jeans pockets.
“After extensive enquiries all of the phones were reunited with their relieved rightful owners”.
Insp Andy Berriman added: “This was great work by the potential victim noticing this man’s suspicious activities and doing the right thing by reporting it to door security staff who took swift action and prevented several people becoming victims of crime.”
Police have called on revellers to be careful with valuables during nights out.
Phone theft is one of most common crimes in Leeds city centre and recent crackdowns have seen raids on shops suspected of selling stolen goods.
