The lifesaving work of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) could prove vital when 3m people visit the region during the July 5 and 6 Grand Depart.

West Yorkshire Police officer Sarah Costello knows better than most about YAA, having been thrown from a horse during a training exercise in Wakefield and losing feeling from the waist down.

The 36-year-old mum, from West Bretton, was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary by the YAA with suspected spinal injuries, where it emerged she had spinal shock. Her sensations soon returned and she is still having treatment.
