The lifesaving work of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) could prove vital when 3m people visit the region during the July 5 and 6 Grand Depart.
West Yorkshire Police officer Sarah Costello knows better than most about YAA, having been thrown from a horse during a training exercise in Wakefield and losing feeling from the waist down.
The 36-year-old mum, from West Bretton, was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary by the YAA with suspected spinal injuries, where it emerged she had spinal shock. Her sensations soon returned and she is still having treatment.
She has helped her three-year-old daughter Ava’s school West Bretton Junior and Infant School and Busy Bees Nursery, in Wakefield, to sign up to our Wear it Yellow Day fundraiser which is a week today on July 3.
We’re asking organisations to sign-up, with individuals wearing an item of yellow clothing on the day and donating £1 each to the charity.
Sarah, who returned to work last week, said: “It was a pretty frightening time, I was thinking I wouldn’t be able to run around after my daughter again.
“I couldn’t be more grateful to YAA, the access to where I fell was extremely bumpy so I didn’t want to be driven over that with suspected spinal injuries. They put me at ease straight away. It is a fantastic cause and Wear it Yellow Day is a great event, everybody should get involved – it’s only a pound.”
Organisations including Mousie Browns Hair & Beauty, Bruntcliffe School, and Primley Park Dentistry are among dozens of sign-ups so far pledging to wear yellow and donate, while some are running special yellow events. Email email@example.com to get involved.
