Accused hits back at plot in 'psychic' child abuse trial
A MAN on trial for abusing young girls after a woman went to police following a pub psychic session claims he is the victim of a plot to get him jailed.
Terrance Dunstan escaped prison in March 2005 after admitting four charges of indecently assaulting three different girls all aged under 16 between 1989 and 2004.
Now father-of-eight Dunstan, 61, of Morley, told a Leeds Crown Court jury the three women now claiming he abused them as young girls when they visited his home had conspired with previous victims.
He says they were angry he walked free from court in 2005 and only handed a three-year community and rehabilitation order.
Prosecutor Richard Mansell asked him: "Do you ever stop to wonder what it is which caused these three women to turn on you in this evil way?"
Dunstan replied: "I didn't get the sentence I believe they wanted me to get when I pleaded guilty to that first offence and this is a collaboration."
One of the women Dunstan was convicted of assaulting when she was a girl moved away from the Leeds area and reported him to police after watching a TV programme about child abuse. The court heard Dunstan did not attend a single session of a sex offender treatment programme he was ordered to attend as part of his sentence. In October 2007 a woman made a complaint against him after a psychic told her during an event at a Leeds pub he believed she may have been abused as a child.
After the psychic's claims the woman told a 19-year-old friend of claims of abuse by Dunstan.
The court has heard that friend told her parents Dunstan had abused her as a 15-year-old but they did not believe her.
Dunstan is charged with three counts of indecently assaulting a girl aged nine to 11; one charge of indecently assaulting a girl aged 10 to 11; and one of indecently assaulting a girl aged nine to 10. He denies all the charges.
