A nice day for a white knuckle wedding

A Leeds bride and groom had a roller-coaster wedding with 60 guests when they married at the Alton Towers theme park in Staffordshire.

The twosome wed at the park's hotel on Saturday and then enjoyed the thrills of the park's rides including the roller-coaster and log flume with their families and friends

Amanda Morris and Scott Lee, both 30 from Bramley in Leeds, have been together since they were 17 and engaged for six years.

They booked Alton Towers for their wedding, but learned the event clashed with a special fun day booked by a group which organises leisure events for people of the Muslim faith.

The clash would have meant restrictions on what the wedding guests could do. For example, alcoholic drinks would not have been available.

But the Muslim fun day was cancelled due to poor ticket sales, and the wedding went ahead as planned.

Mrs Lee, who works as a recruitment sales adviser, said: "It has been a fantastic weekend. It has just been superb."

Because of the initial disappointment over the clash, Alton Towers gave the wedding party free access to the park and an extra night free in the park hotel.

Amanda and Scott spent the first day of their honeymoon enjoying some of the park's scariest white knuckle rides, such as the Nemesis and Air rollercoasters.

But Amanda said the most nerve-wracking part of the weekend was the wedding itself – especially walking down the aisle to be wed.

"But after that everything was fine," she said. "We had the photographs done in the gardens, which is what we always wanted. The weather has been great and everyone has said what a cracking weekend it has been."

The wedding cost 5,000, and the couple have been spending three days at Alton Towers before travelling to London for the rest of their honeymoon.
