40 firefighters involved in search for the sewer game kids
More than 40 firefighters spent two hours searching for two youths down a sewer in Hemsworth.
A worried local alerted emergency services after seeing the teens climb down a sewer via a manhole cover on Belmont Crescent just before 7pm on Saturday.
Firefighters searched the sewer but the youths, aged around 15, could
not be found.
Hemsworth Fire Station commander Chris Kirby, said they were later traced and admitted playing in the sewer. They had been unaware of the search.
Commander Kirby said: "A resident saw the manhole cover lifted open and two heads peer out. Then the cover dropped back down and they weren't seen again."
Crews from South Elmsall, Pontefract, Rothwell, Brighouse, Leeds, Rawdon and Wakefield were involved in the hunt.
