30 people held at gunpoint in Leeds as mercy team robbed
THIRTY people were held at gunpoint at a house in Leeds.
Two masked robbers, one armed with what appeared to be a handgun, burst into the semi-detached house on Beech Mount, Gipton, where the victims – many originating from Cameroon in Africa - were meeting at 9.30pm on Saturday.
Handkerchiefs
The group, which provides practical and cash support to their fellow countrymen, were in the process of paying over cash when the robbers entered.
The gang, who had handkerchiefs covering the lower part of their faces, ordered the victims to the floor and stole the cash.
The robbers, who were both black and wore sportswear, are believed to have driven off in a small white van.
Det Insp Paul Conroy of North East Leeds CID, appealed for witnesses to ring Killingbeck CID on 00845 6060606 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
