2013 Leeds Festival: Last call for entries to a contest with star quality

Time is running out for young musicians to enter a competition that could catapult them onto the bill at this year’s Leeds Festival.

The winning act in the Centre Stage 2013 talent contest will play at the summer rock extravaganza and its sister event in Reading.

Taking place this year for the fourth time, the competition raises much-needed funds for Martin House Children’s Hospice, near Wetherby.

Centre Stage has attracted dozens of entries since details of the 2013 contest were announced in October.

And today organisers warned that wannabe rock ‘n’ roll stars need to get a move on if they are to be considered for inclusion in the latter stages of the competition.

Martin House fundraiser Sarah Smith said: “There is not long left to register for this amazing opportunity and we would urge anyone who is thinking about entering to get in touch and sign up.”

Centre Stage is open to people aged 11 to 21 from West Yorkshire or North Yorkshire.

Acts should include at least one member who is currently at school or college.

The best entries will be selected for places in heats that will be held at Leeds’s Wardrobe venue in April.

A final will then follow at the O2 Academy Leeds in July.

Prizes on offer this year include recording sessions and equipment as well as those all-important festival slots.

For more details on how to enter, ring 01937 844569 or e-mail ssmith@martinhouse.org.uk.

* A recent auction of Leeds Festival memorabilia raised £5,000 for Martin House, it has been announced.
