£1,000 in memory of brave Luke

A football club has raised £1,000 in memory of one of their team mates who died from bone cancer last year.

Wigton Moor Junior Football Club's annual charity gala and contributions from players raised the cash for Leeds-based charity Bone Cancer Research Trust in memory of Leeds teenager Luke Tunstall.

The money will be presented to one of the charity's Trustees, Dr Ian Lewis, tomorrow.

Luke, a former midfielder at the club, had hoped to become a professional footballer but was diagnosed with bone cancer in April 2005. He underwent major surgery on his hips and pelvis a year ago. This was followed up by chemotherapy but he lost his battle with the disease in 2006.

Luke's dad Shaun Tunstall said: "The club have been fantastic in their support of cancer charities."
