£7m worth of weed in the flower boxes
More than two tonnes of suspected cannabis has been seized by police who swooped in Wakefield.
The haul, with a street value of around 7m, was found by officers as part of an operation involving West Yorkshire and Cheshire forces.
Officers from Wakefield district mounted a raid in Wrenthorpe at the weekend and discovered the cannabis in plastic sealed wrappers in a roll-shuttered lock-up – packed in flower boxes.
Two men and a woman were arrested at the address. One man has been released on police bail pending further enquiries and the others released without charge.
Det Chief Insp Dean Henson of Wakefield Police said: "This is a massive seizure for West Yorkshire Police and it will clearly disrupt the supply of drugs in the region."
The raid came after Cheshire police stopped two men in cars on the M62 at Birchwood on Friday.
In one vehicle was what is believed to be just over 100 kilos of cannabis.
Police enquiries ten led to Wrenthorpe, where a further two and a half tonnes of what is believed to be cannabis was recovered.
The two men arrested on the M62 and charged with conspiracy to supply cannabis. were Anthony Collings, 40, and Colin Joseph Whitfield, 35, both of Runcorn. Both appeared at Halton Magistrates Court on Sunday and were remanded in custody.
The operation is the latest in a series of big cannabis seizures in Wakefield district. In April a multi-million pound cannabis factory was discovered in former council offices on Queen Street, Normanton.
In June a 1m drugs farm was put out of action on Batley Road, Peacock, and other major cannabis busts have taken place in Belle Vue and College Grove, where plants with a street value of 500,000 were uncovered.
