£235,000 Otley play area on way
Youngsters in Otley are counting down the days to a summer of fun as work is set to get under way on a £235,000 playground.
The design for Wharfemeadows Park, produced after a consultation with residents, boasts equipment for children of all ages, from toddlers to early teens, with dog-proof fencing, litter bins and benches.

The large community park already has a skatepark, tennis courts, bowling greens, caf, children's leisure complex, formal shrub and bedding areas but the children's playground had been in serious need of refurbishment for years.

Now Leeds City Council has stumped up the cash from its Parks Renaissance Fund and work is expected to begin on site in April. The whole project should be completed in August.
Councillor Ryk Downes (Lib Dem, Otley and Yeadon) said the play area had been a disappointment to families.
"We now have funds to create what will be a wonderful area for the children and young people of Otley. Getting work started as soon as possible is now a priority so everyone can get the benefit this summer."
The YEP launched its 'Let Us Play' campaign in 2008, aimed at improving play areas and creating more playgrounds for the city's children.
In a victory for the campaign Leeds was allocated a 1.1m grant from the Department for Children, School and Families' (DCSF) Playbuilder programme at the end of 2008.
Twenty-two playgrounds across the Leeds council area are now being created or revamped as part of the scheme.
Some of the cash will help create new facilities and some will be spent on revamping existing locations.
The new play areas aim to provide stimulating equipment and landscaping and will be accessible to children with disabilities.
All 22 sites are expected to be ready by March 2011.
Wakefield and Bradford councils also received around 1.1m each from the DCSF to provide new or refurbished children's play areas.
