Lloyds Banking Group is to axe almost 1,000 jobs and close three offices

Lloyds Banking Group is to axe 186 jobs in Leeds as part of a national cull of 990 roles.

A further 80 people in the city will be given the chance to redeploy within the company.

The jobs will go from the credit operations and mortgage and private banking departments in Leeds, the YEP has been told.

A spokeswoman said the jobs would go in the third quarter of this year.

Nationally 990 jobs are to go as a result of the company’s strategic review last June.

A spokesman said: “Lloyds Banking Group is committed to working through these changes with employees in a careful and sensitive way.

“The Group’s policy is always to use natural turnover and to redeploy people wherever possible to retain their expertise and knowledge within the Group.

“Where it is necessary for employees to leave the company, it will look to achieve this by offering voluntary redundancy. Compulsory redundancies will always be a last resort.

“In fact, during 2009, 2010 and 2011 slightly less than 50 per cent of the role reductions made as part of integration have led to people leaving the Group through redundancy.”

The bank has been consulting with trade unions Accord, LTU, GMB and Unite.

Ged Nichols, general secretary of the Accord union, said: “We are disappointed at the continuing job losses at the Lloyds Banking Group particularly in the difficult economic environment but will do everything we can to support the people impacted by the announcement.”

Accord

LTU Miles Better ... same old tiresome rubbish. Accord will be working hard to avoid compulsory redunancies for its members in Leeds. As a progressive trade union, Accord will work with other unions to get the best possible outcomes for all LBG staff in these difficlut times. Perhaps LTU should work with the other unions in LBG instead of criticising them. You can continue this discussion in private with ged.nichols@AccordHQ.org

LTU Miles Better

Ged is disappointed.....big deal. he wont be effected will he? Ask yourself, is it the Unions role to blame the economic environment or should the Bank be doing that? Accord basically is the bloody Bank....they are not a Trade Union Accord stand on the shoulder of the Bank on every bad announcement. They are a disgrace. I am so glad I joined LTU...who still continue to fight for all staff in LBG.
